Family Room Update.

Today Alanah and Charles have gone home, so I have been busy cleaning.

Once the house was clean, I thought the Family room needed a update.

On the chest you can see the Lizards cage, this is her winter spot as it gets the after noon sun here. Lilly the Lizard normally lives in Williams bedroom. The other chair I put in the bare spot near her cage.

This is our favorite room in winter and gets lots of use.

I felt the corner between the two chairs needed something so I made this coffee table out of a old clock and a pot plant holder....
Perfect for this spot....

Now I have to do something with the other side.

I would love to get rid of all the bits of furniture and do one long built in along this wall.

I found this photo on Pinterest, it is similar to what I would like on this wall.I could put the TV on it and have lots of storage under neath. I was thinking if I made it low enough I could use it as seating as well.

Have a great week all...

Blessings

My New Sewing Nook ( No 3 I think)

I have pictures, I 'm still unable to get a browse when I go to photos so I am loading them straight to pisica photos and then I  can add them no worries, it was a fluke that I worked this out  I tell you.

But I can now show you my new sewing nook...
Below is when I moved from the Old Dairy into the family room.

Now I have moved in to the main living room. I needed to have more light and I like to look out the window when I am sewing.

So I moved this cabinet and put a desk that I had around there.

I use the dinning room table to cut out on so every thing is nice and close. Not Ideal I know, but it works and at night I can have tea and go back to sewing..

I have made 8 new cushions so far and as I am blogging my material has arrived from www.fabrictraders.com.au   So after lunch I can get in and make some more.

I thought I needed some yellow so I will make some yellow ones. The hard part is choosing the fabric as Fabric Traders have so many to choose from.

I am now back to having Monday's at home as I have got some-one that is working for me Mondays and when school starts it will be Mondays and Thursday's. Then when these Grand babies start coming I can drop every thing and go to Roma or Charters Towers or even across the road to Chloe. Now as long as Alanah DOES NOT  get married and settle in Canada I am all ready to go.

Have a great week all...
I'm going to get that sewing done.

Blessings

Before and After....

I finally have some photos of my new look family room.
That's right the painting is finished (insert happy dance) the last of the renos is over....
Lets have a look at the journey shall we, come along and have a look with me.

Remember this room before was bedrooms and entry way(below)

Now it is one nice big open living room.

We knocked down a lot of walls and had a support beam put in. Even before we painted it looked so good.

But now it is amazing.
What a change, so bright and airy. I have also moved the table and sitting area around. It is all working much better with the table closer to the kitchen.

Below you can see how this was once a bedroom.

Looking more like a family room with the lounge and a few plates on the wall.

Ta DA
I know, have I mentioned that I am loving the white, and don't the plates look so much better against the white walls.

Even this dinner set that has been here for years looks better.

Have you noticed I am using a turquoise colour in here, I have been collecting bits and pieces in this colour waiting for when I painted.

So what do you think?
I have to admit at first the white was very well WHITE, but once I got my plates on the walls and colour around with the cushion's and throws it made it much more MANDY.

But not every thing is white, I still love my blue kitchen. I have given it a freshen up with new white trims though, I will show you that latter.

Have a great day.

Hello All...
and a big thank you to those that replied to me about painting my kitchen cabinets.
My first being from my daughter via a text which read...(Do not I repeat do not paint the kitchen cabinets white)hmmmm looks like I will be leaving them as is. Keeping them clean was a major concern and hearing how some of you have trouble I think the wood will be staying...

sewing nook to the left of door way.

and yet here I am acquiring more wooden pieces. I have always wanted a set of small drawers in my bedroom for all of my accessories(slight obsession here I blame my Mother for it)I mean a drawer for each colored bangles, earrings, necklaces, scarves etc , I great idea for storing them all. I picked this beauty up from a shop in Gatton..I always imagined an old chippy  one but hey I could let the boys at it and that would fix the problem...

Any ways (is that a word) until I get to paint it white to go in my bedroom I thought I would bring it inside....well it is heavy and this is as far as it got, just inside the back door. I'm sorry the photo doesn't do it justice above.
Guess what.....I love this piece here, I won't be painting it at all not with 20 drawers any way. As yet I don't know what I will store in it I'm thinking as it is near my sewing nook it will be good for craft stuff.

I guess this means I'm still looking for one for my bedroom.

I am off to craft this morning at the local hall, I didn't get there at all last year and really lost touch with a lot of the ladies so I  have made a decission.. Spend more time with people whose company I enjoy. What I mean is, time for me is the last thing I do, including being with people I love and whose company I enjoy..The last few years family and friends have all taken a back seat to work, things are going to change. Yes I have to run a business and put food on the table and pay bills, but I also need a life.
 Balance.
This is what it's all about balancing out time with friends, family and work.

Enjoy your day

Curtain Remake.............

The curtains all finally all up...
This was a major expense for me but I think it was well worth it..
Even though the posts need to come down the curtains have given this room continuance.

Remember before?
Being that this space used to be four separate rooms(lounge, dinning, front entry and 2 bedrooms) I had a real variety of curtains. In there own rooms they looked great, hmmmmmm altogether, not so good. Very busy....

At first I wasn't sure if i liked them ....Very plain for me as I love colour. After a day though I love them.
I have never bought curtains before I have always made them, so it was quite frightening when I saw the price of curtains.

I liked the look of the rings in the top. To by this material was $29 a metre from spot light and I still had to make them. The ones I got are just from K Mart....Yes K Mart a shop I never really look at but I was getting desperate and remembered I had seen curtains there..Well they were only $25 and they are 1.2 metres wide.....HA cheaper and ready to hang.

As you can see I needed alot of curtains.
12 in all.
hmmmmm still short. They just weren't full enough I thought, so back to K Mart..........None left.
No worries don't panic...Back to spotlight as I had seen the patterned curtains that I liked only they were a lot dearer. I got four of the patterned ones at $50 each and put one in the centre of each window....
Perfect

Above is with all the curtains opened and you can see how many windows are in this room. I had to have block out material as the morning sun streams in through this side.
I did get new rods as the old white ones were horrid. $150 for rods and brackets....
$240 for curtains from K mart
$ 200 for curtains from spotlight
$150 for rods
$590
Just as well I like them. Friends have been telling me this is not expensive for curtains....how much do you pay for your curtains?
I think this room has come together nicely, yes it still needs to be painted and the beams taken down. This might take a while as the builder is very busy with rebuilding from the flood damage. But for now I am very happy with it.

One last photo.
O while getting curtains I saw this mat for only $30 it looks much better than the blue one I had there, and the basket is for storing magazine's in. Baskets hmmmm I could do a whole blog on them loving them at the moment for storage.

Blessings

Dreamy Whites............

How are we all on this hot Thursday afternoon?
I thought I would cool you down with some cool, creamy, dreamy, whites.
Vases that I picked up ages ago from a thrift shop look a treat with carnations placed in them. Not from my garden though as it is to hot and nothing here is flowering.

This sweet rose is one of my favorite things. My daughter Jessica got it for me a couple of years ago and I am always moving it around. It looks at home with the flowers here.

And a sneak peak at the new curtains.....
They are nearly all up, I will get them finished this evening I hope. As you can see I am yet to paint these walls, but that won't be happening for a while yet. The new curtains have changed the look and feel of this room already.

I hope you enjoyed that quick look, I am of to do the bus run now. Tomorrow I am having 3 male Japanese students staying until Sunday, that was the motivation for cleaning the boys room the other day. Soooooooooooo busy ....

Early Morning...............

This morning I am awake early... As I sit out on the veranda I can hear our creek running from all the glorious rain we have had in the last three weeks.
What is the most amazing sight is the fog rolling in.....O.K so I am not often on my front veranda at 4.30 a.m so the fog is a novelty for me.....Greg always said that when there is fog it will be a beautiful day.

I hope so as
Today I am meeting my Mum out at Highfields for coffee and lunch, then home..........As The cabinet maker is coming this afternoon to install my walk in robe (I am doing my happy dance) Hey a walk in robe is reason for excitement.....also the rest of the pressed metal arrived yesterday so the ensuite can be finished (more happy dancing)

Tar..........Darrrrrrrrrrr..... ....
Williams bedroom gone and new dinning and TV room...Sorry about the photos but it is still dark inside....All the posts will come out in the new year when the builder comes and puts the support beams in the ceiling.......

So every thing is all coming together.....

I hope you all enjoy your day....
Blessings

Finished projects

The Easter holidays are over for another year, the children are back at school today and all is quiet on the home front. This morning I have been busy cleaning floors and scrubbing mats, how can they get so dirty I wonder? Tomorrow is back to work, I have enjoyed spending more time at home and a slower pace.. May be the business will sell, keep your fingers crossed as it has been a long slow process. I have had a few interested people, but it is a bad time to be trying to sell. It will happen when it is meant to.
Meanwhile I have got the T.V cabinet painted and I love it..After cleaning all the old DVDs and videos out I even have some spare shelves in there. This little corner of the family room is a work in progress, the oars No 1 son gave to me and I have been looking for the right place to put them, I think I've found it..As you know I am not a fan of fishing but Greg loved it, so the oars remind me of both David and Greg.
I got the words from Loot. Family, Friends, Relax, how important are those 3 words and that is what this room is about. Relaxing with family and friends.
There is a crispness to the air today, so I am going to do some baking and if there is time dig up the vege garden as I should be getting seedlings in by now...
Have a good Monday,
Blessings

Come In....

Welcome to the new look Family Room..
Down the stairs we go,Look at all this creams and white.yummmmy, the leather lounge is new I got it for a real bargain, how much you ask well I have to tell you $400 ....now you see why I couldn't leave it there.

The little white coffee table is new as well...reduced from $240 to $120 at LOOT. It has a crack in the top of the wood that is why it was reduced, if they hadn't have shown me I wouldn't even had noticed..

The brown T.V unit to the left is yet to be painted. Below is the laundry which comes off this room..I have new laundry tub and taps also a new toilet down here, toilet is door to the left.
The laundry has always been on bore water and the sink was cruddy and the taps corroded up. Greg always said when ALL the tanks are full we will change the laundry to tank water. Well with all the rain we had they are FULL!!!! The shelves have all been painted white and I love the fresh green and white colour scheme now. If you click laundry on the side bar you will see how it was before.

There is still blinds and curtains to put up and wall hangings to hang but it is coming together. The hardest part is other than the trimmings now all being white the room is basically the same. But believe me it has all been rebuilt..remember those white ant photos ....aghhhh.
Thanks for comming in and having a look, now what room is next??????????
Blessings
